GODDESS WORSHIP

Goddess worship has been practised throughout history by virtually every major culture in the world. It is part of the history and cultural heritage of Europe and was practiced until medieval times in parts of Latvia and Scandinavia. Thousands of individual goddesses were worshipped by the classical Greeks, the Romans and Celtic peoples and remained influential throughout the development of early Christianity. Some of the traditions, symbols, names and iconography of goddess worship can still be found in the portrayals and titles of the Virgin Mary.
