ANIMA ONE 1995 - 96

ANIMA ONE

Anima One was the beginning of the Anima Series on the Far North Coast of NSW.
This period was an opportunity to build upon my experiences photographing in Perth, Western Australia where I had previously worked for ten years.

Establishing a working relationship with someone through whom I can express myself is not an easy thing to achieve. My experience tells me there is a direct relationship between the closeness of such a relationship and the emotional honesty and substance of the images that result.

The traditional notion of the artist magically revealing the inner character of their subject at the first sitting is largely a myth.

In reality it requires years of consistent hard work and patience to become genuinely familiar with someone and to understand something of detail about who they are.

Technical perfection is one thing – emotional honesty and authenticity is entirely another!

My thanks goes to Wendy for all her time and effort in helping me to achieve something real.’
