UNIO MYSTICA
Unio Mystica is a Latin term meaning a mystical union with the godhead. The Christian use of this term dates from the centuries immediately following the crucifixion of Christ and refers to a mystical experience in which a person may come into close contact with the divine. In the Christian example this meant a close contact with God, and in many spiritual traditions preceding the Christian era it meant a close contact with various other deities. An ecstatic or intense spiritual experience, resulting in a trance-like state was practiced by many ancient societies and is still observed in various indigenous cultures world-wide.
