SASR (SPECIAL AIR SEVICE REGIMENT)
SASR (Special Air Service Regiment) is the Australian Army’s version of the British SAS and is based at Campbell Barracks in Swanbourne, Perth, Western Australia. The Australian SASR (like its British counterpart) undertakes reconnaissance and information gathering via land, sea and airborne operations. Since 1979 SASR has also maintained a counter-terrorist group (code name Gauntlet) which can undertake siege and rescue operations in the event of a terrorist attack. The ranks of SASR are composed of professional soldiers, and recruits must successfully pass a series of entrance courses to become members of the Regiment.
