PAGAN
The word pagan (Latin Paganus: villager, yokel) commonly refers to the worship of any religion outside the Christian, Jewish nor Muslim traditions. In ancient times pagan was a largely pejorative term and was used by the Romans to describe those people (yokels) living on the fringes of the empire. Pagans were commonly seen as being less cultured by the early Christian church and less inclined to accept the 'new' faith.
The modern use of the term 'pagan' has become so confused and deverse that no single definition has gained acceptance.
