ISIS

The Egyptian Goddess Isis was the most widely worshipped goddess of the ancient world. Her influence spread across three continents over a period of more than three and a half thousand years. Over time she became confused with many foreign goddesses and became a universal symbol of the Mother Goddess. Isis was worshipped in every part of the Roman Empire from Hadrian’s Wall in Northern Britain to the silk roads of the Far East. She was worshipped well into the Christian period and aspects of her worship have been incorporated into the titles and portrayals of the Virgin Mary.
