ESOTERIC
The word esoteric derives from a Greek word (esoterikos) meaning inner or inside of. Nowadays esoteric refers to something profound which is known to or understood by a select few. The esoteric embraces a range of spiritual, symbolic and philosophic traditions, many of which originate from Middle Eastern or Far Eastern sources. In ancient times the influence of Egyptian and Mesopotamian culture was widespread throughout the Greek and Roman world. These influences have survived in garbled or fragmented forms such as astrology, tarot cards, alchemy and various occult practices. The purpose of esoteric study is self-knowledge through spiritual and emotional development.
